The Egg Donation Journey

A guided path from first consultation to result, so you always know where you are.

  1. Assessment

Confirming donation is the right route.

  2. Donor matching

A screened donor matched to your requirements.

  3. Cycle preparation

Your uterine lining prepared for transfer.

  4. Fertilization

Donor eggs fertilised with partner or donor sperm.

  5. Embryo transfer

The embryo transferred to your uterus.

What is egg donation?

Egg donation is a long-established fertility treatment. It is used where the ovaries have lost the ability to produce eggs of suitable quality, or any eggs at all — for example in premature ovarian failure. In these circumstances the uterus itself is usually entirely capable of carrying a pregnancy. Donor-egg pregnancies are monitored more closely than most, because they carry a recognised increase in blood-pressure disorders of pregnancy, including pre-eclampsia.

Pregnancy rates are generally higher than with a woman’s own eggs at the same age, because egg quality tracks the age of the egg rather than the recipient.

About Receiving / Donating & Sharing Eggs

Egg donation is a long-established fertility treatment. It is used where the ovaries have lost the ability to produce eggs of suitable quality, or in some cases any eggs at all — for example in premature ovarian failure. In these circumstances the uterus itself is usually entirely capable of carrying a pregnancy. Donor-egg pregnancies are monitored more closely than most, because they carry a recognised increase in blood-pressure disorders of pregnancy, including pre-eclampsia; your specialist will explain what that means for your own antenatal care.

Pregnancy rates with donated eggs are generally higher than with a woman’s own eggs at the same age, largely because donors are younger and egg quality tracks the age of the egg rather than the age of the recipient. That is a general pattern rather than a promise — what applies to you depends on your own assessment, and your specialist will discuss it before you decide.

Our donors

Our team has been very active in raising awareness of the need for egg donors in recent years, and we are conscious of the enormous gift that donors are making to an infertile couple. Egg donation at our clinic is usually anonymous, but we will accept known donors following careful consideration on a case-by-case basis, providing they fall within the published criteria.

Is Egg Donation right for you?

The factors this treatment is usually recommended for.

  • Ovarian factors

    • Premature ovarian failure
    • Very low ovarian reserve
    • Poor egg quality
  • Cycle history

    • Repeated IVF failure with own eggs
    • Repeated poor response to stimulation
  • Genetic factors

    • Risk of passing on a genetic condition
    • After cancer treatment affecting the ovaries

Benefits & Potential Considerations

An honest picture of both sides, so the decision is an informed one.

Benefits

  • An option where own-egg treatment is no longer viable
  • Pregnancy rates are generally higher than own-egg treatment at the same age
  • The uterus itself is usually entirely capable of carrying the pregnancy
  • Donors are screened before any treatment begins

Potential considerations

  • The child will not be genetically related to the intended mother
  • A recognised increase in blood-pressure disorders of pregnancy, including pre-eclampsia — antenatal care is monitored more closely as a result
  • Counselling is important and is offered as part of the programme
  • Donor availability can affect timing
  • Eligibility is governed by Indian ART law rather than by the clinic
